About our nail polishes

What does 5-free mean?

It means that our nail polishes are made without chemical products considered harmful for health. While some brands continue to use them, it was obvious for Il était un vernis that our nail polishes would be free of formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalate, toluene, formaldehyde resin and camphor.

And Vegan?

It means that our nail polishes are not tested on animals and no products of animal origin are included in the composition.

What is the exact composition of your products?

Where are your nail polishes from?

Our nail polishes are created in France and manufactured in Australia. We considered manufacturing our nail polishes in France, but we quickly had to deal with the difficult reality: volume requirement worthy of the heavyweights of the cosmetic industry, and colours to be picked from catalogs. So we turned to a manufacturer capable of meeting our requirements that we found at the world's end...

Are you what we call an “indie” brand?

Most “indie” brands are hand-made by their creators. But the word “indie” is in fact used to designate an independent brand no matter its manufacturing process (hence the confusion for many consumers). Therefore, Il était un vernis is indeed an independent brand.

Why not manufacture your nail polishes yourselves?

The regulation regarding cosmetics is drastic, we cannot launch a product on the French market without credentials. The only way to ensure the safety of our clients in respect with the current legislation is to outsource the manufacturing of our nail polishes to professionals. It is the guarantee to trace the origin of the raw materials, to confirm the good manufacturing practices or to test the quality of the finished products.

Apart from your on-line boutique, can I find your nail polishes on another website or brick and mortar store?
